Since hosting the first veteran event on July 4th, 2000 the location has created FOCUS programs that evolved from a nine-year study. The study of the mind, body, soul, and community embrace core areas that have developed organically from our personal exposure to over 15,000 combat/veteran service men and women since the first Wounded Warrior R&R retreat in 2010. This exposure was intense, having over 5 combat wounded warriors living on premises from 8 months to two years. Our locations exposure to the horrors and dysfunction these warriors brought home is a rarity during our nation’s longest war. These holistic FOCUS programs that developed from this profound exposure address MIND – combat PTSD/moral injury, BODY – physical/mental decompression, SOUL – individual respite, and COMMUNITY – citizenry development.
The number of active duty soldiers hosted on location annually sets the standard within the military community for private retreats that provide holistic therapy programs dedicated to our armed forces. All free of charge!
Our 501c3 not-for-profit foundation was formed in 2016 and is managed by long-time family/business legal and financial team of Hayden & Cunningham, PLLC and Gilliam & Associates PC. At the advice of our legal team my family has moved slowly and deliberately for the past nine and a half years. The fact that this entire evolution has been developed by unsolicited funds, we believe, is a testament that it is meant to be!
The letters our location has received over the last 19 years, and the reality of having over 30,000 guests attest to the fact that the SS American Memorial; whether the benefit is to the Mind, Body, Soul, or Community – helps a person heal!
“May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
